Designed for a couple seeking a home that combines the timeless character of Basque architecture with a refined contemporary approach, this residence is located in the quiet residential neighbourhood of Errepira, in Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
The project was conceived as a carefully balanced response to its setting, with particular attention given to privacy, natural light and the relationship between indoor and outdoor living.
Due to the narrow proportions of the site, the main living spaces were oriented toward the garden, benefiting from optimal sunlight and open views. The design prioritises generous landscaped areas around the house, preserving a strong connection to nature and creating a calm, intimate atmosphere throughout the property.
The entrance is positioned along a side façade, allowing the interior layout to remain fluid and efficient while maximising the quality and openness of the main living areas. This organisation creates a clear architectural composition and a seamless everyday living experience.
A secondary wing facing the street was designed to welcome visiting family and guests. Conceived as a discreet extension of the main residence, it offers privacy and independence while remaining fully integrated within the overall architectural language of the house.
The project reflects Atelier Ondra’s approach to contemporary living on the French Basque Coast — elegant, understated and deeply connected to place.
